形態特徵

  • Evergreen trees; branchlets gray-white, rusty-hairy.
  • Leaves coriaceous, oblong-lanceolate, 9.5–13 cm long, 2.6–4 cm wide, entire, rarely remotely serrate, acuminate at apex, acute to obtuse at base, shining green above, ochraceously reddish-hairy beneath, lateral veins obscure, 10–14 pairs; petioles 0.5–1.7 cm long.
  • Staminate catkins slender, erect; staminate flowers 3.5–4.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; perianth 6-parted, 1.2–1.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; stamens 10–12, the filaments 3.5–4 mm long, glabrous, anthers 0.3 mm long, 0.2 mm wide, longitudinally dehiscent; reduced ovaries 3, hairy. Pistillate flowers 2 mm long, 1 mm wide, perianth 6-lobed, glabrous outside, hairy inside.
  • Fruits sessile, globose, 3 cm across; spines of cupule nearly straight, 2-branched, 1–1.2 cm long, 4 mm wide, tawny-hairy; nut 1 in an involucre, 1.2–1.3 cm long, 1.2–1.4 cm across, sparsely hairy.

物候

Staminate flowers blooming from February to April; fruits maturing from October to December.

分布

  • 台灣 : fairly common in broad-leaved forests at 400–1,500 m altitude in the central part of the island.
  • 世界 : Distributed in mainland China (SE, S & SW).
